Abstract
Asian Biennales as a New System of Art Exhibitions, and the Chinese Role within it, 1993-2003
This presentation will place Asian Biennales as a new kind of art exhibition institution which features contemporary Asian Art within the system of multi-level art distribution, from inter-artist exchanges and gifts, to primary market sales from galleries, and secondary markets composed from inter-dealer and inter-collector sales. Contemporary Chinese art entered this system in a specific period, 1993-2003, and began to perform particular functions within it.
