Martin Grossmann
CV
Martin Grossmann, theoretician and curator, holds a degree in Fine Arts, FAAP (1983), and a M.A. from the Escola de Comunicações e Artes, University of São Paulo, Brazil (ECA-USP) (1987). In 1993, he received his Ph.D. from the School of Architecture, University of Liverpool, Great Britain and delivered his associate professor thesis at ECA-USP in 2001.
Grossmann has been acting as deputy director of the Museu de Arte Contemporânea de São Paulo (MAC-USP) (1998–2002), and research co-ordinator of ECA’s Multimedia Lab (1994–1996). In collaboration with Luciana Brito and Mônica Nador he created and co-ordinated the Education Department at MAC-USP (1985–1987). He teaches as professor at the ECA-USP. In 1983 he was assistant curator and mediator of the 16th International Bienal de São Paulo.
Grossmann is founding member of the Museum of the (In)consequent Collective and member of the International Association of Curators of Contemporary Art (IKT). He is currently director of the Centro Cultural São Paulo and co-ordinator of Forum Permanente. Museus de arte entre o público e o privado.
Since 1989 he has been developing research on contemporary art and on the imaginary and the virtual Museum. He was teaching assistant in art history and architecture at the department of Fine Arts in São Paulo (1985-87), teaching assistant in art history and architecture, and tutor in design at the School of Architecture, University of Liverpool, England (1990-93). As a research assistant he worked at the Institute of Art & Design, University of Central England in Birmingham, England (1992-93). In that same period he was lecturer in contemporary art at the University of Liverpool, England.
