Laymert Garcia dos Santos is journalist, philosopher, and essayist. Currently, he is professor at the Institute of Philosophy and Human Sciences at UNICAMP, São Paulo. He is member of the Centro de Estudos dos Direitos da Cidadania at the Universidade de São Paulo and of Conselho Diretor do Instituto Socioambietal. In 1992, he was Visiting Professor at St. Antony’s Collage in Oxford, Great Britain.
Since the 1980s, he has dedicated his research to the multiple relations between technology and society (environment, art, and culture) and has published widely about the topic. He translated Étienne de La Boétie’s Discours de la servitude volontaire into Portuguese and is author of Desregulagens (São Paulo: Brasiliense: 1981), Alienação e Capitalismo (São Paulo: Brasiliense: 1982), and Tempo De Ensaio (São Paulo: Companhia das Letras, 1989). In 2001, he edited Müller e o Ritmo dos Tempos in the series_Drucksache N.F.6_ (Düsseldorf: Richter Verlag/ Internationale Heiner Müller Gesellschaft).
