Ángel Kalenberg

Ángel Kalenberg was Director of the National Museum of Visual Arts of Montevideo, Uruguay from 1969 to 2007. He was Vice President of CIMAM and member of the Administrative Council of AICA. Among others, he was: Curator for the Latin American Section of the 10th Biennale de Paris (1977); member of the International Commission of the 17th Bienal de São Paulo (1983) and member of the organizing committee for the exhibition Arte Latinoamericano del siglo XX (Seville, 1992; Museum Ludwig, Cologne, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris and MoMA, New York, 1993). He has published several books and articles and chaired twenty-four forums on the subject of new technologies and on new forms of art at the ARCO Forum in Madrid (2003/2006), as well as directing a series of lectures at the IVAM in Valencia (2007/2008). He has been a member of the IVAM Board of Directors since November 2007. The Art Critics Association of Argentina granted him the Lifetime Achievement Award as Latin American Critic (1985), and the Brazilian Art Critics Association nominated him Correspondent Member (2000).
