Samuel Sidibé

Samuel Sidibé has a Ph.D. in History of African Societies. He is now Director of the Musée National du Mali. His research focuses on African art and archeology.

From 1994 to 1996 he was associate curator of the Niger Valley exhibition. He has collaborated with ICOM and UNESCO in a crusade against the looting of archaeological sites and illegal trafficking of the Malian cultural heritage. He contributed to raise awareness both at a national and international level about the necessity to protect cultural hertige.

From 2001 to 2003 he contributed to the rehabilitation and expansion of the National Museum, which now serves as one of the continent’s most important institutions to house contemporary art exhibitions.

In 2007, together with African curators, he produced the exhibiion Contact Zone, which brought together artists from North Africa and the southern Sahara.

He recevied the Prince Claus Prize in 2006.

His publications include Contact Zone (2007) and Musée National du Mali. Catalogue des Expositions Permanentes (2006).
