Koeki Claessens has been head of the museology service of the Royal Museum for Central Africa since 2004. After spending 10 years in Africa (Tanzania and Ethiopia) she started working at the museum as an educational officer in 1990. As a coordinator she was involved in the development of several temporary exhibitions such as With the tram to Tervuren, Exit Congo Museum, The memory of Congo. The colonial era and several small collection exhibitions. She also organized the Development Cooperation Prize. Koeki Claessens has an MA in Art History and a postgraduate degree in Anthropology. She also studied at the Reinwardt Academy in Amsterdam.
