Joaquín Barriendos Rodríguez, Asst. Prof. Ph. D., is Assistant Professor in the Art History Department of the University of Barcelona. He coordinates the research project TRISTESTÓPICOS focused on the cultural imaginaries of Latin America. He is assistant editor of the Spanish review BRUMARIA related to the aesthetic and political contemporary practices. He is assistant editor of the Spanisharea of the web-journal TRANSVERSAL, mainly related to the relation between the art institutions and the critique (which is part of the EIPCP – European Institute for the Progressive Cultural Policies). He is co-editor of the magazine (EX)CENTRIC DOCUMENTS ON THE LATIN AMERICAN IMAGINARIES. He is fellow-researcher of the project Intercultural Dynamics (Research, Teaching, Documentation and Dissemination Centre for International Relations and Development of Barcelona). He is also independent curator, art critic and publisher. He was director of TRANSVERSO (Interdisciplinary Review of the Philosophy Department of the University of Mexico). He has obtained fellowships from the Art History Department of the Latin- American University of México and from the Roland Barthes program in the same university. He has collaborated with the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona (Publications Department). He has been invited to curate contemporary art exhibitions in different European venues.
